Frequently Asked Carpet Cleaning Questions
What carpet cleaning method do you use?
Hot water extraction, which most people call steam cleaning. Hot water and cleaning solution go into the carpet under pressure and come straight back out with the dirt, rather than sitting in the fibers.
It is the method most carpet manufacturers specify in their warranties, and it is the only one that pulls out what has worked its way down to the base of the pile.
How often should carpets be cleaned?
Once a year for most homes. Every six months if you have pets, kids, or a light colored carpet in a busy hallway.
Most carpet warranties actually require professional cleaning on a set schedule, so it is worth checking yours. Waiting until a carpet looks dirty usually means waiting too long, because by then the grit has been grinding against the fibers for months.
Can you get pet stains and odors out of carpet?
Most of the time, yes. Surface stains usually come out completely. Odor is a different problem, because it comes from what soaked through into the pad underneath rather than what is on the carpet.
We treat what we can reach and we will tell you honestly if we think the pad is the real issue, rather than cleaning it twice and hoping. Send a photo of the worst spot with your quote request.
Is carpet cleaning safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Everything we use is safe for children and animals once the carpet is dry, and hot water extraction rinses the cleaning solution back out rather than leaving it in the fibers.
We would just keep everybody off the carpet until it is dry, mostly so nobody tracks dirt back onto it.
Do you clean upholstery?
Yes. Sofas, sectionals, chairs and dining seats, using the same hot water extraction method we use on carpet.
It is worth doing at the same visit as your carpet, since we are already set up and it saves a second trip charge. Upholstery is also the fabric people touch most and think about least, so the difference tends to be more noticeable than they expect.
Do I need to move furniture before carpet cleaning?
We move what two people can move safely. Anything heavy, fragile or electronic we work around rather than risk.
Clearing small items off the floor before we arrive speeds the job up, but it is not required.
How long does carpet take to dry?
Usually 2-3 hours in normal conditions, and longer in a closed up house in the middle of winter.
We will tell you what to expect for your house before we start, not after. If you have a hard deadline, like guests arriving, say so when you book and we will schedule around it.
